Okay, so I have finally decided to watch this film, with a warning from my son that it is very explicit. That is putting it mildly. The debauchery and exploitation of people, women and otherwise is sad, however, the film was supposed to be based on a real person’s life story. All I can say is, it is a wonder that person survived all the drugs, sex and rock and roll that he did.
Enough ruminating, and being in shock. Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, is absolutely fantastic. He captures this role, owns it, you name it. I think he has gotten better with age. He was fabulous in The Revenant too, but his ability to do comedy, tragedy, drama, and yes horror, all in the same movie, was captivating. I was totally engrossed in the film, despite it being depraved.
If you can withstand seeing too many beautiful naked women 😉 or diabolical sex and drugs and people with no compunctions about ripping any kind of person off, rich or poor, then you will see a film constructed in a way that engages the viewer for all aspects of its intricacies with the strength and weakness of its characters. Amazingly enough somehow in the end, after all he had done, I was rooting for Belfort’s pathetic soul.
I highly recommend this film with a severe warning… watch out for Leonardo DiCapro, he will knock your socks off, or some other piece of clothing.
